Chae-Yeon's study on transcriptomics got the green light for publication in Rheumatology (Impact Factor: 5.5) on July 28, 2023.
Her study aimed to identify predictive biomarkers for treatment response by analyzing longitudinal transcriptomic data from two independent RA cohorts—one Korean and one Caucasian. Her analysis revealed fascinating insights. Among the 305 identified response-associated genes, 41 were identified as key drivers, orchestrating transcriptomic alterations in four distinct networks related to immune pathways: type I interferon signaling, myeloid leukocyte activation, B cell activation, and NK cell/lymphocyte-mediated cytotoxicity.
Perhaps most excitingly, she developed transcriptomic response scores, providing a personalized measure of the individual-level degree of expression changes in these key driver genes. These scores were found to be significantly correlated with changes in clinical indices, offering a potential breakthrough for predicting patient outcomes.
