Eunji identified 11 novel genetic loci that confer risk of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in 311,292 individuals of Korean, Japanese and European populations. Her follow-up computational genetic analyses revealed the importance of CD4-positive T-cell biology in RA pathogenesis. Large-heritability variants preferentially spanned binding sites of various transcription factors related with TCR-mediated signalling and were preferentially located with transcription-activating histone marks in CD4+ T cells, including stimulated, memory and/or regulatory T cells. Moreover, she nominated a total of 615 plausible effector genes based on gene-based associations, expression-associated variants and chromatin interaction, which included targets of drugs approved for RA treatments and potentially repurposable drugs approved for other indications.
Eunji's paper was accepted on Nov 26 for publication in Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases (ARD) with IF=16.102 and published online ahead of print on Dec 10 (https://ard.bmj.com/content/early/2020/12/23/annrheumdis-2020-219065).
