Rheumatoid arthritis genetics paper accepted by ARD on June 30

A collaborative work among 10 different institutions (including KimLab, Hanyang University Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases (HUHRD), Center for Genome Science of Korean National Institute of Health, other university hospitals) made a tremendous effort to understand the biology in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) from the genetic variants.

This study, led by Prof. Sang-Cheol Bae and Kwangwoo, newly generated genome-wide variant data in two independent Korean cohorts comprising 4,068 RA cases and 36,487 controls, followed by a whole-genome imputation and a meta-analysis of the disease association results in the two cohorts. We identified six new RA-associated loci that contributed to better understanding of the genetic etiology and biology in RA. By integrating publicly available omics data with the genome-wide association results, a series of bioinformatic analyses were conducted to prioritize the RA-risk genes in RA loci and to dissect biological mechanisms underlying disease associations.

The manuscript of this study was accepted for publication in the Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases (ARD) on June 30, 2020. The latest ARD impact factor is 16.102, making it the Number 1 original research journal in Rheumatology.

Dr. Young-Chang Kwon (at HUHRD), Jiwoo Lim (MSc 2019; KimLab), and Prof. So-Young Bang (at HUHRD) contributed as joint co-first authors. Kwangwoo and Prof. Sang-Cheol Bae (at HUHRD) contributed as joint corresponding authors. Eunji Ha (at KimLab) participated as a co-author by performing several important computational analyses.

Congratulations, all.
